In the seventh installment of the Podcast series, Jeff addresses the issue of what to do when you don't "feel" like worshipping, be it as a worship leader or in your personal life.
Hello all - we're excited to launch a new project of Jeff's. It seems after every single concert there's a youth pastor or a musician that has questions for Jeff about problems or challenges they're having with their worship team or their own ministry. Time doesn't always allow Jeff to really address the question - hence the idea for this new video podcast. We'll begin adding videos on a regular basis in which Jeff will dive into your questions as they pertain to assembling a band, writing a worship song...anything you want to discuss! We hope these resources are helpful to you in your worship ministry and hope you'll subscribe to the podcast and catch each episode.

Title: 02.15.07 - God, fun and family . . . all together! Author: Jeff Deyo
02.15.07 - God, fun and family . . . all together!
Hey guys, it's really cold in Nashville! A couple weeks ago we actually had two days of snow. Count 'em . . . 1 . . . 2!! And this is NOT normal. The funny part is it was supposed to snow the day before, so the night before that they closed most of the schools. Here in Tennessee, we don't wait for the snow to come, we close those schools down if there are even rumors of snow! EVen still, we got Roman and Evan out for a little sledding-oh baby, that was fun . . . especially hearing Martha scream like a girl all the way down the hill. Hmmm, I guess she is a girl . . . no matter.
God is inspiring me and teaching me so much right now! It's funny, because every time you think you've got a good foundation on your walk, God moves in and says, Deeper. Let's go deeper. So, here I go again . . . trusting and praying for more transformation in my life.
So, come on! Run with me! And don't be afraid to face the weaknesses of your flesh and then to let God strip them from you. The Bible says we can be FREE from all that junk, so let's run the race, starting with trusting and obeying God's command in Colossians 3:5 to put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking with you.Instead, we can clothe ourselves with a brand new nature that is continually being renewed as you learn more and more about Christ, who created this new nature within you.
We celebrated a monumental occasion last month with Martha together with friends and family alike. Yes, folks, I know it's hard to believe, but I am 37 years young, and it is public knowledge that I married a slightly older woman. I still remember when I first met Martha. She was ready to get hitched and was done playing the dating game. She said to me, "I'm ready to get married, so is 24 too old?" And I simply responded, "Is 21 too young?"And that was the beginning of a lifetime of love and friendship!
So you may have guessed . . . Martha turned the BIG 4 - - 0 this January 11. So to celebrate I concocted a plan to pull off a huge surprise party for her. I started by booking us for a 3 day get-away to a stunning bed and breakfast just south of Nashville to throw her off the trail. I joked with her, saying, "We can just go down to Murfreesboro and you can turn 40 in peace and quiet."
We went horseback riding, antique shopping and movie watching. Then the night of the big shebang, I took my bride to a nice restaurant on the south side of Nashville. I invented a story about needing to run by our record company president's house to pick something up after dinner. And sure enough, once inside the house, everyone jumped out and yelled SURPRISE! Lots of Martha's friends from church came, her mom and aunt from Mississippi, the band guys, my manager, Chris Nichols and of course Roman and Evan! And a good time was had by all! If you'd like to wish Martha a belated birthday or just say "hi", you can email her at martha@jeffdeyo.com.
Title: 12.10.06 - Pure Life Revolution Author: Jeff Deyo
There is a disturbing movement on the rise. What many are calling the new sexual revolution is now upon us in full force. Everywhere you look people are becoming less and less prudent when it comes to their own sexuality. Pornography is rampant (with a greater yearly income than pro basketball, football and baseball combined), girls' clothing is fitting tighter and becoming more and more revealing, the media continues to grossly push the envelope with sexually explicit content and in general what has become acceptable sexually is continuously a lower and lower standard.
Me and the guys have been made much more aware of this dilemma in the last few years and are growing more and more concerned about it's seriousness as alarm bells go off all around us. Of course, sexual immorality is not a new problem. In fact just about every society in history has succumbed to this plague. Interestingly, the majority of these societies either imploded, were overtaken by war or were destroyed by God upon arriving at the place we presently are globally.
From where I stand, unless you have your head in the sand, it doesn't take much to see that we are at a crisis point. We are literally raising a generation of young people who believe it is just part of life or normal to have same sex partners, to sleep around, to indulge our sexual appetites whenever we feel like it, to masturbate to porn, and to watch others on the internet, in movies and TV do all of the above.
Our young ladies have bought the lie that they have to advertise their bodies in order to be attractive or to feel good about themselves. But we need to remind them that only the least expensive and common automobiles need to advertise. Think about it. We never see ads for Porsches, Bentleys, or Lamborghinis, but we constantly see ads for mid range or average cars. The expensive cars never need to go on sale, and those who purchase these cars do so with the intent of treating them with the highest of respect and care. Plus we rarely if ever see a used one for sale, because these cars hold their value and don't often get traded in for a newer model.
Too many of our young women don't see themselves as valuable, and so they continue in the cycle of hoping they can snag a buyer by showing off what they have instead of knowing they are a special creation in Christ and simply trusting God for the one he intended.
At the same time, our young men are believing the lie that sex is the best part of a relationship with a female, and that they were created with a burning lustful passion that just can't be overcome. They haven't been taught that the actual act of sex is as much emotional, mental and spiritual as it is physical and that they don't have to be consumed with fleshly lusts like wild animals running the planet.
All of these things are causing us to desire to counter what the devil is telling our students. One of the things we've done is connect with XXXChurch.com (an online church that helps people in the pornography industry break free from their addiction by turning to Jesus), and Tina Marie, tinamarielive.com (a speaker and Hollywood lie-buster). These people along with many others are providing help for people trapped in the sexual lie, and we are getting involved too!
Last month we worked with Tina Marie and a Nashville based organization called Pure Life Revolution at an event trying to raise awareness on all these issues. It was an amazing evening and just the beginning of things to come. We are looking to begin a monthly worship night in Nashville in 07 that will lead to a huge national event called The Call (with Lou Engle and many others) in the Titans Stadium on 07/07/07 July 7, 2007. So keep your eyes and ears out and pray with us about all these things! You can also watch www.thecall.com for more info.
Title: 05.10.06 - Thoughts on Personal Worship (by Jeff) Author: Jeff Deyo
We often hear from pastors and evangelists that God is raising up a new generation of people in these last days to obey him and do his will. Many times the generation is described as a young generation. I've heard it over and over again at youth conferences around the country. Somehow the word generation has become a buzz word that makes everyone cheer but causes few to truly stand for the Kingdom.
In the last couple of years, I feel like God has impressed upon me something from his heart. He wants to remind us that the people he is raising up in the last days the same worshipers Jesus said he was looking for in John 4 are not defined by human classifications. While it has become more widely understood that God is not searching for a particular race, denomination, gender or class, it is sometimes implied that God is looking for a group of young people to head up the battle. While I do know, as history shows, that many of God's greatest warriors and revivalists were younger people, I do not believe that God is biased in this area in these end times. He is looking for passionate, obedient, loving people. He doesn't care if they are 12 or 82, black or red, rich or poor, male or female, Jew or Gentile. He is simply searching for worshipers who will worship him in spirit and in truth. He is looking for those who are willing to give up their lives for his Kingdom those who are willing to die for him if necessary and who will live for him without trying to serve two masters.
This is important to understand for a number of reasons, but mostly so that this young generation doesn't assume they get to be a part of God's end time warriors by default and so that those who are over the hill don't feel their time is over. God tells us in Joel and in Acts that he is going to pour out his Spirit on all people servants and men and women alike. This will result in the old and the young prophesying and having dreams and visions as well as participating in the end time harvest. Are you a part of this new generation?
Title: 03.22.06 - Spiritual War over Harvard Author: Mark
03.22.06 - Spiritual War over Harvard!
We just finished two days with the radical Jesus-people of the Justice House of Prayer (JHOP) in Boston. They are doing a 40-day, 24/7 onslaught of prayer and fasting and worship in Boston's First Baptist Church. Built in 1816, this historic landmark has been the scene of a lot of significant stuff. It was the last station on the Underground Railroad and Martin Luther King, Jr spoke there during the Civil Rights movement. The congregation had dwindled down to ten old ladies when the pastor had a vision of God turning the church into a house of prayer. He got all his ladies praying, "Central Square, House of Prayer!" Around this time, the JHOP kids (30 college age and 30 adults) showed up from Washington DC on a specific call from the Lord to fight for the Ivy League schools. The latter have been an entry way into the Unites States for a lot of unholy stuff - Universalism, Unitarianism, Secularism, and now Islam is beginning to establish a deadlock on Harvard's campus. Muslim prayers are prayed over a loudspeaker at Harvard 5 times a day. Christians are not tolerated.
We fasted and slept on floors, and it was glorious. We led worship Tuesday night, and heaven came down! It was incredible! We had prayed all the way that our worship set would not be "our thing" (which is not a bad thing, of course!) but that we would be able to join in with the stream of what the Lord was doing in their midst, and from the testimonies of the kids afterwards, we were blessed and encouraged that He had come through for us!If you want more info on JHOP, visit www.jhop.org. Just do it! Love, Mark
